Welcome

Thank you for visiting my website.

I am a licensed psychologist who has been in practice for over 35 years.  My background is quite varied and includes training in psychotherapy for individuals and couples, adolescents and adults. I have extensive training in clinical hypnosis and am a consultant and instructor for the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and a past-President and Fellow of the Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis. I am Board certified by BCIA in neurofeedback and a Global Neurofeedback Initiative instructor for Brainmaster Technologies/StressTherapy Solutions. Additionally, I hold a Diplomate status in Quantitative EEG analysis.

My professional services

Psychotherapy

I provide individual and couple's therapy for adolescents and adults. My background is quite extensive and varied. I prefer to adapt to my client's needs since everyone truly is different rather than insisting on a particular style or technique. I am an active therapist and I'm not hesitant to share my thoughts and guidance with you. I prefer a collaborative approach as we explore together how to ease the difficulties and troubles for which  you seek assistance.

Clinical Hypnosis

I have been trained in the use of clinical hypnosis since 1980. This is a natural intervention (one which we all experience when day-dreaming and drifting) that allows one to learn to become deeply relaxed when needed or to allow one's thoughts and feelings a greater ease of expression. Hypnosis, when indicated, can often accelerate the course of treatment and hasten resolution of problems

Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback, or brain biofeedback, is a technique that began in the lab at U.C.L.A. in the 1960's by Dr. Barry Sterman. He was researching how to prevent the toxic effects of rocket fuel, such as seizure activity, from affecting jet pilots for NASA. He had trained laboratory cats to respond to a specific brain wave by rewarding them with sugared milk, when they produced this calming wave. After the fuel had been stored in the lab for the weekend, he was surprised on Monday that the cats trained to produce specific brain waves (SMR waves) did not experience seizures while the non-trained cats were sick. This led him to wonder whether humans could be trained to modify their brain wave patterns as effectively as cats - and a new therapeutic modality was born. Since the 1960's the field of Neurofeedback has evolved from placing one sensor on the scalp to placing 19 (whole head training). We can now train a particular brain area or the whole brain toward stabilization or normalizing. An assessment called a qEEG is often conducted which helps to produce a "map" of brain function that may be reflective of the symptoms someone is experiencing. NFB training is calming, pleasant, takes about 20 to 40 minutes to complete and requires anywhere from 20 to 40 sessions. NFB is not a panacea or answer for all, but I have used this technology to assist clients with brain injuries, depression and anxiety, learning difficulties, pain and attentional problems.
